Was reading Dilbertblog  where Mr. Adams said that most pop songs are actually made-up of nonsensical lyrics.  The readers gave random words and a band in Germany made a song by stringing most of the words together. Quite catchy and really funny too! Here’s the video.

Dreaming January 31, 2008

Just recently, I’ve realized I am not a fan of dreaming, dreaming at night that is.  This came up out of a conversation with friends regrading their capability to control their dreams.  I realized I never even attempted that in my dreams nor even try to turn off light switch, in the first place, there’s no light switch in my dreams.  The past few days have been, as usual, dreamless nights.  And I really love that.  Waking up just knowing the last thing I did was close my eyes and not that I flew all around the world and had such a blast controlling my flight pattern.  The last thing I need is to realize I’ve spent the last 8 hours of my sleep flying around.

I may not be a fan of dreaming while sleeping, but I do love to dream, wide awake that is.  It sometimes interferes with my concentration during class.  But really, I had a lot of dreams, and I am sure every homo sapiens sapiens alive also does.  I am currently listening to Mark Batterson as he speaks of How to Set Life Goals, and he started out saying that Praying and Dreaming are actually the same things.  Or they could be the same things.  It was quite insightful because as I dream, there is really that longing that I want it to happen really bad and I know that it will happen only if it is according to God’s will.  No amount of dreaming will make it come true if it is not according to his purpose.  I will try to write up some of my life goals in some post, I already wrote more than 100 of them a few years back but I have not been able to check them again.

Too much Facebook apps January 24, 2008

Read an article in New York Times about the different Facebook applications. I am a fan of Facebook but then I realized that many, as the article said, of the applications are really quite silly. Vampires or werewolves? Or maybe a happy pill? How about knowing how lovable I am? Or the drink that a friend sent me? I may be guilty of throwing people for kicking them because of Superpoke, but I’ve realized that it really takes a lot of time to do that, and they seem a bit wasteful and not fun.  That’s for me at least.  Maybe I feel this way because I haven’t been able to access Facebook from the office, thus I had to press “IGNORE” for about 87 times because of the application requests I’ve received.  I also ended up removing almost half of the applications in my profile.  Just left those that I might think are useful.  No more flufffriends, or movierack.  I think I’ve reached that point where I’ve had too much of these applications that aren’t as fun as they I started using Facebook. Maybe my friends felt annoyed as well when they received too many “kicking” or “serenading” from me. For that, I apologize.

The article written above also talked about the issue regarding SCRABULOUS, which was an application similar to SCRABBLE.  I think the owners of SCRABBLE wanted the application removed as it infringed on their intellectual property right over the game. Well, they had the right, I think, and I agree with the article, that it was only a matter of timing for the owners of SCRABBLE.  Now that the game is popular, they might use it to get some profit. Good corporate thinking.

Heath Ledger is dead!?! January 23, 2008

I cannot believe the headline when I saw it in Ya-boo. He was found dead in his apartment in Brooklyn. He was just 28 for crying out loud. Aww. I really feel bad, not because I know him personally (duh) but he was a really good actor and I was really excited to see him in this summer’s Batman movie. Oh my. What a loss. There are just very few actors I really admire and he was slowly getting into that list, I think the trailer of Batman did it for me.

Dead at 28, that is really early. He was in his prime, just at the beginning of it. What a bad way to start this day.

I love watching sports, I mean tennis specifically. I am amazed at how incredibly fit and talented these athletes are especially if their matches last as long as 4 hours. Reading their preparation for the tournaments makes me think that maybe I could do those things as well when it comes to my studies. Since my grades need some major overhaul, I have to really do something about it.

These athletes usually train hours everyday to get them into the shape that they need. They do not start playing only a few hours before a match or a few days. That would really ensure their defeat. Thus, if I want to do well, I have to start training every day. I have to be able to know what I have to do (like studying) and do it constantly. Not a day before the finals, I have to invest time in studying even if the graded part comes much later.

These athletes also rest. That is because their body is what they need to make them win the game. There’s no such excuse as the spirit is willing but the body is weak. It will not work. So I think I should get as much rest as I can, but not longer than 8 hours, which I oftentimes do. My body is what I need to be a great lawyer, so I have to take care of it.

And of course, these athletes always have a goal. It may be a grandslam or the world cup, but for sure they’re aiming for something. My aim: be really great once I am out of law school. One way for me to prepare for that is to give my best now because this next two years will be my training ground. As my Taxation 2 prof would say, outside of the law school, the challenge lies. She asked if we were challenged by that idea, that the battleground was out there, I would have said yes, if it was not in a big class (it was a rhetorical question). Given the chance I would have shouted “Awoo! Awoo! Awoo! ” Like the scantily clad persians of the movie 300.

Just had to place it here, Maria Sharapova beat Henin! Yes!!! Haha.

Someone please remind me of this post, give me a slight poke and tell me I’m deviating from this. I’ll love you even more if you do that.

Yahoo should include a function where I can divert all my mails from that account to Google.  Google allows that in their free email accounts, why does Ya-boo give that feature only to their premium accounts?! And yes, I’m loving wordpress. Since I am supposed to be studying and not blogging like a rabid fool, that shows how much I enjoy putting my ideas here. Haha

One thing I love about UP is the really cheap food that are quite easy to find, since most of them are street food.  Just this afternoon, while waiting for my cousin to finish whatever she was doing, Ming, Jo and I ended up in SC to grab some merienda.  Nothing beats tostadong fishballs for me.  I just love the crunchiness of the carb-loaded food especially when the sweet and spicy brown sauce makes it a bot soggy.  I always end up eating two orders, which a carb-conscious friend would raise his eyebrows at. Sue me.

Then as we were about to leave, I realized that even before I decided to order fishballs, I saw this kakanin near COOP which really looked like the ones my Lola Ebang used to make. I really remember how she used to make those bibingka in the traditional way. She would collect banana leaves from the backyard and use it to cover the big container which will house the batter she has made.  The part I loved was when she would finish putting the sweet layer on top of it called latik and she’ll give me the pot and I’ll eat my heart out on what’s left. Heavenly.  Well, that was how the kakanin in SC looked.  SO I bought one, the called it puting pinipig or something.  It was a great food find! Really good for just 12 pesos.  I will definitely try one again when I pass by that place, intentionally or not.

Someone needs to start doing something about the system for payment here in UP! My salary for November and December has not arrived yet. Argh! And all I can do is blog about it.

God really works in ways I could not fathom.  I can only be grateful and humbled in all the things that he has done and will be doing this year!. Just got a promotion in my work. Whee! That was a quick answer to a prayer request.  Praise Him! Really.
